Salient mirrors are the original security and inspection mirrors, first developed in the 1980s by Salient Manufacturing Company. The company worked closely with independent and governmental security experts to develop highly functional and customizable surveillance and security mirrors, including both hand-held and under-vehicle designs.
Over the years, Salient inspection and tactical mirrors have become products of choice for military, police, and independent security teams. Here are short profiles of the Hawk Gear team:
Walt is an Irwinton, GA native who has made his career as a successful businessman and entrepreneur. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Walt assumed full responsibility at GIGA, Inc., a contract supplier to the U.S. military and federal government. He has been a part of the company’s successful operation and expansion for over three decades.
In 2014, Miller formed Hawk Gear as an auxiliary company. The acquisition of Salient Manufacturing was completed in 2016 and operations were moved to Macon, GA. The Salient security and surveillance mirror product line and all manufacturing operations were added to the Hawk Gear portfolio. In addition to manufacturing security mirrors, Hawk Gear performs other sales and distribution tasks as well as kitting and assembly operations.
When he’s not working, Walt enjoys hunting, fishing, and “everything outdoors.” He and his wife, Connie, also enjoy spending time with their kids and grandkids.

As VP of Hawk Gear, David Miller handles all of the financial workings of the business and is very involved in day-to-day activities. A graduate of Georgia Tech, David’s area of specialty is technical writing, but he’s become well versed in all aspects of business after joining the family company in 2010.
David is married to Janelle, also a Georgia Tech grad and an engineer. The couple has one son, Harrison. An avid computer enthusiast, David likes all things tech.

If you ask Karen Inman what she loves about her work, you’ll find out quickly that customers come first. “I have great customers,” she says, and she goes all out to make sure their orders go smoothly every time.
A cum laude graduate of Troy University with a degree in business, Karen came to the Middle Georgia area as a sales representative for Lithonia Lighting. She teamed up with Walt Miller in 1990 as a government and military sales representative for his company.
At Hawk Gear, Karen is involved with all aspects of the business, from initial customer contacts through the ordering process, production scheduling, and making sure that orders are shipped on time. She’s the go-to person to check availability, order status, and to get answers to questions.
Karen lives with husband Gene, “a Georgia boy,” and her four legged friend, Barkley. She loves UGA football, reading, cooking, and planning social events.
